Serrano $3.75

One of the most commonly grown chiles in Mexico and the Southwest U.S., but plants are surprisingly hard to find here in Northern Illinois! Finger shaped peppers are many times hotter than Jalapenos, average 3-4" long, about 1" wide, and ripen to a deep red or reddish brown. Perfect for salsas and sauces due to their thin skin and thick flesh, and well suited for pickling and jardiniere. Extremely productive - when frost threatened, we picked one plant clean of all sizeable peppers, and counted 92 chiles! That doesn't even count the small, immature peppers!
