Dwarf Tomato Plants NEW! $3.75

New this year we are trialing a small number of Dwarf tomato plants. New Big Dwarf Tomato has been crossed with many different heirloom tomatoes, then crosses were crossed and crossed again! The goal was to create fruits that have heirloom like flavor borne on smaller, more manageable plants. These 2.5-4' plants are easier to care for (a tomato cage will suffice!) and do well in containers. The varieties we offer this year include:

  • Rosella Purple 65 days from transplant – first offered to the public in 2010 by Victory Seeds. Rosella Purple is a regular leaf dwarf variety that produces oblate medium to medium large fruit that ripen to a dusky rose purple color. The flavor is well balanced and intense, and the variety is quite prolific. It originated from a cross made by Patrina Nuske Small between Budai Torpe and Stump of the World, named Sleepy. Rosella Purple was selected from the Rosella Crimson material and named by Craig LeHoullier to reflect the distinct color.
  • Wherokowhai. 75 days from transplant – first offered to the public in 2014 by Heritage Seed Market and Tatiana’s TOMATObase. Wherokowhai is a potato leaf dwarf variety that produces oblate medium to medium large fruit that ripen to a rich yellow with swirls of red. The flavor is outstanding, well balanced and sweet, and the variety is quite prolific. It originated from a cross made by Ray South between a selection of our project line called Dopey and Lucky Cross and named Dizzy. Wherokowhai was selected and named by Richard Watson.
  • Tasmanian Chocolate 65 days from transplant – first offered to the public in 2010 by Victory Seeds. Tasmanian Chocolate is a regular leaf dwarf variety that produces oblate medium fruit that ripen to brownish brick red color. The flavor is well balanced, mild and sweet, and the variety is quite prolific. It originated from a cross made by Patrina Nuske Small between New Big Dwarf and Paul Robeson, named Happy. Tasmanian Chocolate was selected and named by Linda Reid.
  • Confetti 80 days, dwarf — The high yielding, rugose, regular leaf plants of Dwarf Confetti produce delicious, eight to twelve ounce, round to slightly oblate shaped, bright yellow fruit with yellow and pink stripes. Their flesh is also yellow and exhibits some pink marbling. Dwarf Confetti was Selected from a cross between: Beauty King X Dwarf Wild Fred and named by Craig LeHoullier.
When ordering, please indicate in the notes which variety(ies) you would like. Plants will be available May 16th.

Please see the Dwarf Tomato Project for more information on this fascinating breeding project.
